With our withering economy and inflating prices, American auto makers continued making their heavy vehicles with terrible gas mileage and failed miserably. Their Asian counterparts focused on lighter smaller vehicles offering double or even triple the gas mileage. They were absorbed into the housing bubble and assumed that the massive increase in construction meant an American truck in every home. Unfortunately, with this vision came disaster.
